What Is an Octave Mandolin?

The octave mandolin bridges the gap between a mandolin and a guitar. Because it is tuned GDAE, one octave below a standard mandolin, it has a deeper, fuller voice, and it is widely used in Celtic, folk and Americana music for both rhythm and lead playing.

Our octave mandolins have a 58.4 cm scale and 27 frets, so they offer plenty of range for melodic playing while still being comfortable for chord work and accompaniment.

Standard vs. EQ: Which Hora Octave Mandolin Should You Choose?

Both models share the same solid spruce top, solid flat maple back and 58.4 cm scale, so the choice comes down to whether you want a built-in pickup.

If you plan to perform live or record direct, choose the EQ model: it adds a built-in Artec FSE3 pickup, so you can go straight from the instrument to the sound system, while the Standard model is the lighter, simpler choice for everyday playing.
